A few bars of film music can be enough to conjure up images of the big screen in one’s mind. The spotlight of the awards presented in the film industry, however, tends to be on directors, producers and actors – while the honouring of the music in the films is usually neglected. That is why the IAMA (International Academy of Media & Arts e.V.) and the DEFKOM (German Film Composers’ Union), in addition to the Saxony-Anhalt Film Music Days present the GERMAN FILM MUSIC AWARD.
The award is the biggest and most important accolade in the area of film music in Germany. It aims to bring about a greater degree of appreciation and esteem for the composers of film music.
Since its premiere in 2014, the GERMAN FILM MUSIC AWARD has invited its guests to Halle (Saale) once a year, paying tribute to composers and welcoming prominent artists, musicians, actors and actresses as well as guests from the worlds of politics, business and society.
The focus is on the composers and their work. The GERMAN FILM MUSIC AWARD gives a face to the creative minds and makes their work transparent. It honours their artistic work, and creates unique emotional moments with the nominated works.
The GERMAN FILM MUSIC AWARD sets highlights, and gives “emerging talents” a space in which to network. An independent and professional jury from the industry underscores the high quality of the competition and the awards ceremony.
